Lota is chosen Red Wine of The Year by the renowned British Master of Wine Tim Atkin

In addition, the wines presented by Viña Cousiño Macul for the 2023 edition of its report obtained outstanding scores.

This week, the renowned British wine critic and Master of Wine, Tim Atkin launched his 2023 Report on Chilean wines . In this edition, Lota , 2019 harvest, Icon Wine of our winery, was awarded as Red Wine of The Year.

This recognition fills us with pride, not only because of the relevance it has at the national and international industry level, but also because it represents our commitment to quality, tradition and excellence in the production of our wines.

For this new edition of your report, Tim Atkin visited our country and tasted more than 1,200 wines , including 8 labels from Viña Cousiño Macul, which received excellent scores.

At the top of the list is Lota , our Icon Wine, 2019 harvest, which obtained 97 points . This wine is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Merlot. The grapes for this wine come from the best and oldest barracks of Cousiño Macul , planted in 1960 in the case of Cabernet Sauvignon and in 1980 in the case of Merlot.

The grapes for our Ultra Premium line, Jardín de Macul, come from precisely the same vines mentioned above. For its part, Jardín de Macul Cabernet Sauvignon , 2019 harvest, obtained 95 points and was highlighted in the list of Cabernet Sauvignon wines of the year . While J ardín de Macul Merlot , also 2019 vintage, obtained 94 points. These wines correspond to the selection of the 3 to 4 best Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot barrels of each harvest.

• Jardín de Macul Merlot, 2019: 94 points.
• Finis Terrae Red Blend, 2017: 94 points.
• Finis Terrae White Blend, 2020: 91 points.
• Antiguas Reservas Cabernet Sauvignon, 2020: 91 points.
• Antiguas Reservas Merlot, 2020: 90 points.

It should be noted that our Icon Wine, Burbot, 2018 harvest , obtained 3 important awards in the Descorchados Guide 2023, where it was chosen as Best Red from Chile, Best Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile and Best Maipo Andes.
