Antiguas Reservas began in 1927 with the strain Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1969, the first addition was made Chardonnay and later would join the Merlot. Thus, more than 90 years later, the emblematic Line of Viña Cousiño Macul has a new addition to its portfolio: Carménère.
This strain originating from Bordeaux was thought to be extinct after a phylloxera plague destroyed almost all of Europe's vineyards in the mid-19th century. However, on a trip to our country in 1994, the French ampelographer Jean-Michel Boursiquot determined that What many believed was Merlot was actually the missing Carménère.
“The addition of Carménère to this line is a milestone for Cousiño Macul, just as it was with each of the previous strains that make it up. We only produce wines of superior quality under the name Antiguas Reservas. They have to be memorable wines ,” says Verónica Cousiño, Commercial Manager of Viña Cousiño Macul and part of the seventh generation that is currently working in the family vineyard.
Antiguas Reservas Carmenere is now available in our Online Store and in the main supermarkets in the country.
With more than 160 years of winemaking tradition, Viña Cousiño Macul continues working to fulfill its mission: to produce elegant, unmistakably Chilean and world-class wines.
