Conoce la plantación de nuestro primer cuartel de Carménère

Our vineyard continues to grow! We start this month with news from Paine for Carménère fans. Under the eaves of replanting project in Viña Cousiño Macul, We started the first Carménère barracks of this vineyard , which will have an area of 6 hectares.

With this project we seek to renovate the barracks that, over the years, have begun to lower their quality and yields, in addition to incorporating sustainable practices that will help these new plantations adapt to the challenging climatic conditions that the Maipo Valley presents.

Carlos Cousiño Mery, Field Administrator at Viña Cousiño Macul, points out that being located in a valley with a dry climate, high temperatures, high radiation and increasingly scarce rainfall, “challenges us to continue implementing practices that go hand in hand with our permanent commitment to care of the environment and that help our vines adapt to these new conditions.”

Regenerative agronomy for the new challenges of the Maipo Valley

One of the peculiarities of this plantation is the application of “mycorrhizae” . Carlos explains to us that mycorrhizae “ are fungi that form symbiosis with our plants, They facilitate the extraction of nutrients and minerals -mainly those close to the roots- which helps to expand the root system.

Likewise, these new crops are established under a medium density plantation framework and with lower canopies , which reduces evapotranspiration and with this we generate a more efficient use of water resources .

The regenerative agronomy practices They are today the basis on which we work our vineyards , increasing the resources available in the vineyard instead of depleting them.

Production and application of compost, humus and guano, incorporation of chickens and sheep in the vineyard, reduction of tillage and CO2 emissions, in addition to the planting of covered crops between rows, are just some of the regenerative agronomy projects we implement in our vineyards . With these we seek to continue moving towards a production that is increasingly respectful of our lands and maintaining the quality that characterizes us so much .

We leave you some records of this first Carménère plantation in Paine:
