The renowned British wine critic gave Cousiño Macul excellent scores, including our Iconic Wine Lota.
In these last few months marked by the global spread of Covid-19, we needed some good news, and so it was! We have very good news for our consumers, since in his “Chile 2020 Special Report”, the renowned British wine critic and Master of Wine, Tim Atkin, gave excellent scores to the labels presented by Cousiño Macul.
Topping our scores is Lota , with its 2013 harvest, which reached 97 points and was described by Atkin as “a wonderfully elegant and sophisticated blend.”
They are followed with 94 points by Jardín de Macul Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 and Finis Terrae White Blend 2018.
The first one, Jardín de Macul Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the best and oldest plots of this strain from our vineyard in Macul, from vines planted in 1932. “A classic, fine, textured and elegant style,” noted the Master of Wine in his report.
For its part, Finis Terrae White Blend, It is a blend of three white strains: Chardonnay, Viognier and Riesling, the latter two being uncommon in Chile, which together achieve a surprising aromatic complexity.
With 93 points, Jardín de Macul Merlot continues , 2017 harvest, coming from the best and oldest blocks of this strain from our vineyard in Macul, and then our Cabernet Sauvignon Premium, W [Double U:] , whose grapes come 100% from our vineyard in Buin.
Closing the ranking, is one of our most recent releases and part of our Cousiño Macul Limited Editions: Cabernet Franc 2017 vintage . Launched in 2019, it is the only wine in our portfolio that is 100% made from this variety and achieved 90 points in the report. “Smooth, modern and fragrant, aged in used barrels, it has brambles, red fruits and discreet spices,” said Atkin.
We hope these scores are a good reference when choosing your next favorite Cousiño Macul!
